Women’s Support Group Participates in Art Gallery Crawl

Last week, our Women’s Support Group, comprised mainly of newcomer Portuguese-speaking women, participated in a “Gallery Crawl,” a free initiative offered by the Akin Collective project led by Co-Director Michael John Vickers. Participants visited local non-profit and commercial art galleries in the Toronto’s West End, learned about various forms of contemporary practices, and got exposure to a wide range of local arts programming opportunities.

Works with: On Your Mark program team

Position Details:
21 hours per week for one year with possibility of extension, pending funding

LATINX PARENTS FOR CHANGE Program

LATINX PARENTS FOR CHANGE is a project designed to build on leadership skills, deepen understanding of school governance and promote and active participation in the school/community life.

Parents will be presented with the opportunity to learn how the Education System in Ontario works as well as different ways that Latinx parents can get involved in school councils and/or parental involvement committees in their children’s schools.

Working Women Community Centre and The Mennonite New Life Centre are offering a FREE training for Latinx parents of elementary school children to become active advocates of their children’s education.

Parents are required to commit to the full training (27 hours) and certificates will be presented upon completion. 
Training will run Wednesdays 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. from October 19th to December 7th 2016. Location to be confirmed in the vicinity of Mount Dennis Neighbourhood.
